Do I need an amp to power these speakers?

Single barrel speakers can be powered using the current head unit in the boat given you have enough open channels for the speakers. Each speaker uses its own channel from the head unit. Most head units have 4-6 channels available to power the in-boat speakers and any additional speakers. A standard head unit will put out anywhere from 20-80 watts per channel. This is plenty to power the individual speakers.

However, for optimal performance from your Polk, Kicker, or WetSounds single barrel speakers we recommend the use of a WetSounds HTX-2 Amplifier. This will make the tower speakers perform at a higher level offering louder sound and less distortion at higher volume.
